Suzuki Boulevard C109R/RT

In their attempt to create the absolute modern cruiser, Suzuki engineers have taken the power plant from the M109R and retuned the camshafts for more low-end and mid-range torque over horsepower and so deliver a classic piece of machinery, not only in style, but in attitude as well. The 1783 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 54-degree V-Twin sets the Boulevards C109R and C109RT up against the best in the business, so a GSX-R-derived electronic fuel injection system seems like a great solution for the two models. And so does the wide-ratio five-speed transmission.

Like the engine and gearbox, the chassis was built for the long haul. With a high-tensile double cradle steel frame and Showa suspension working on both ends (49mm forks deliver 130mm of wheel travel and a rear monoshock linked to an aluminum swingarm), these bikes are meant to offer first class accommodations.

But stopping an 838 lbs or 900 lbs (touring model) curb weight is never an easy task. That is why Suzuki uses a combined braking system. So when applying only the front brake lever, two pistons out of three will provide the needed braking power, but when applying only the rear brake, this last will be used at full capabilities and the front will intervene with a single piston. You can imagine what happens when you hit both. This may not be extracted from the world of races, but it gets the job done proudly.

The Boulevard C109RT offers a plus of comfort thanks to a tall windscreen and passenger backrest, but also decent carrying capacity thanks to a pair of leather saddlebags. The bad boy image is enhanced by the studded seat while the new for 2010 white wall tires give it a retro look as well.

Triumph Rocket III Roadster 2010

Legendary British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph is introducing the baddest version yet of its 2.3 litre Rocket III, the Rocket III Roadster. The Rocket III Roadster moves out of cruiser territory and transcends into that of the ultimate muscle streetfighter. With all the power and ability of the standard model and the biggest torque figure of any production motorcycle.

Engine

The Rocket III Roadster features the most powerful version yet of the incomparable 2.3 litre, in-line, water cooled, triple. With 146bhp at 5750rpm, the Rocket III Roadster is the most powerful model in Triumph’s range – but it’s the massive torque that really separates the Rocket III Roadster from the rest. With 194Nm, more than any other motorcycle on the market, the Rocket III Roadster accelerates unlike nothing else. But despite its size, the engine is incredibly smooth as the balance, input and rear drive shaft contra-rotate against the crankshaft, which makes for minimal torque reaction.

Brakes

The Rocket III Roadster features a sophisticated anti-lock braking system that makes 100 calculations each second to ensure the rider retains full control under extreme braking. Up front, the twin four-piston calipers are mated to 320mm floating discs to deliver the sort of stopping power you’d expect from a high-performance bike. The rear brake, developed especially by Brembo, is a single twin piston caliper and 316mm disc.

Suspension

Menacingly blacked out 43mm upside down forks offer precise steering while all-new twin shock absorbers at the rear provide a comfortable and composed ride one-up or two. Combined with the mid-mounted controls and revised ergonomics, the Rocket III Roadster offers the sportiest ride of any motorcycle to proudly display the Rocket III badge.

Black Finishes

Two menacing black finishes make the Roadster the meanest looking Rocket III yet. The motorcycle is available in sparkling Phantom Black or a minimalist Matt Black option, with the stripped down, ready for action look enhanced with some equally shadowy components. From the Roadster’s 2.3 litre heart to the 43mm forks up front, the blacked out components of the Rocket III Roadster ooze classic streetfighter aggression.

Chassis

In sparkling Phantom Black or menacing Matt, the Rocket III Roadster oozes menace and quality in equal dozes. The chassis is a tubular steel twin-spine design using the engine as a stressed member for maximum stiffness and control. New ergonomics place the rider in an ideal position to push the bike effortlessly into corners, while the blacked out components perfectly match the aggressive streetfighter styling and ensure the Roadster looks as good as it goes.

kawasaki vulcan 2010

The engine is what makes the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 Classic LT so popular among experienced riders and we couldn’t understand this aspect better as we’re talking about a 125-cubic-inch (2,053cc), 52-degree V-twin with dual cams and four valves per cylinder. This thing is built for quick acceleration even though it will have to move the 884.2 lbs wet weight of the fully accessorized Vulcan 2000 Classic LT. With a bore and stroke of 103mm x 123.2mm it’s hard to thing that virtually anything else related to that engine even matters, but the great part about it is that it determines all the other systems to grow with it. Take fueling system for example. The Digital Fuel Injection features dual 46mm Keihin throttle bodies in order to supply the engine with the needed amount of gas which sometimes can be in a more than decent quantity.

The greatest quality of big V-twin motors is that they deliver loads of torque from just above idle and that of Vulcan’s achieves peak 141 lb-ft of torque at just 2,800 rpm. That’s why you don’t get a sixth gear and also why fuel consumption won’t be that bad after all. The engine and tranny connect through a 220mm flywheel just so that power delivery would be smooth, not only impressive.

Given the specific engine and tranny, all Vulcans are built on a steel double-cradle frame bolted in between a 49mm telescopic fork offering 5.9 inches of travel and a triangulated steel tube swingarm offering 3.9 inches of travel. This thing rides on a pair of 16-inch wheels and the rear one features a 200mm tire, just so you get a clue on how the engine influences all of the other features of this motorcycle. But because it is mounted so low on the frame, the engine (which also features forged pistons and alloy connecting rods) has everything to do with the 5.3 inches of ground clearance which also allows for a fairly low seat height of only 26.8 inches.

Any sport bike would be proud of the front 300mm discs with four-piston calipers brakes while secure rear braking performance is ensured by a cruiser-like disc measuring 320mm in diameter and working with dual piston caliper.
